SEI has been fortunate to have the long-term support
of Portland’s business and philanthropic community.
The community demonstrated unsurpassed support to help
SEI complete a $10 million capital campaign to build
the Center for Self Enhancement. The campaign was kicked
off by a $1 million gift by U.S. Bank, a loyal corporate
partner of SEI’s for many years.
SEI’s annual budget is now over $11
million. 46% of SEI’s budget is supported by
government contracts at the federal, state, county
and city levels. The remainder of SEI’s budget
is funded by foundations and corporations (19%), special
events (15%), endowment funds (8%), and individuals
(12%).
Several foundations in the Portland area have helped
SEI become the award-winning program that it is today.
The Collins Foundation, for instance, has given grants
to develop and sustain the Collins Foundation Multicultural
Library at the center. Meyer Memorial Trust has supported
the expansion of SEI’s programs to year-round
and to serve elementary, middle, and high school levels.
The Meyer Trust continues to support SEI through a five-year,
$500 grant. The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and the
Oregon Community Foundation are among other long-standing
foundation supporters to SEI.
The corporate community of Portland has shown dedication
to SEI throughout its twenty-two year history. For instance,
NIKE, Inc. partnered with SEI during its very first
basketball camp in 1981 to give each camp participant
a new pair of basketball shoes. NIKE continues to support
SEI through cash and product donations. Other generous
corporate support has been given by Providence Health
Systems, State Farm Insurance, Spirit Mountain Community
Fund, PacifiCorp Foundation and the PGE Foundation.
