Portland, OR Self Enhancement, Inc. is one of the nation's most comprehensive and successful youth development organizations. 90% of our students overcome significant barriers to success (poverty,
family substance abuse, gang involvement, absent parents, low academic achievement, etc.)
to
become positive, contributing citizens.
In 2008, 100% of Self Enhancement seniors graduated from high school in four years. This talented group includes four class valedictorians, two Rose Court Princesses and one Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship recipient.
Found Art The remarkable Journey of Felicia Capuia
A lot of people try to be artists… and then there are the lucky few like Self Enhancement Post High Student Felicia Capuia who are simply born to it. Felicia discovered her natural talent in college but her work shows a color and compositional maturity beyond her years… and it's keeping her very busy. She was the featured artist at the City of Portland’s 2009 Black History Month Celebration and at a recent benefit for Children of the World, and she has launched her own business, Capuia Artistry.
There she is… Miss Black Oregon 2009 Self Enhancement student Chelsea Deloney
brings home the coveted title
Winning Miss Black Oregon fulfills a dream Post High student Chelsea Deloney has had since she was 13. She waited until college to compete because she knew the award (and possible scholarship) could help pave the way for her future aspirations. “I'm so excited about what the future has to offer me in terms of education, leadership and overall growth as a young woman,” she says.
